Marcos Arranz
Marcos Arranz is both the academic coordinator for the Institute for Society and Genetics (ISG) and the Neuro, Narrative and AI Livescu initiative (NNAI) at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He coordinates all of the day-to-day efforts of the Livescu initiative, which includes organizing the NNAI Faculty seminar, the student research programs and overseeing project management for the NNAI projects. Simultaneously, he coordinates ISG events and meetings and supports ISG faculty in their projects.
Marcos graduated from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. He also holds three master’s degrees on Biomedicine from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB), on Biomolecular Science from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) and on Fintech and Business Management from Three Points University.
During his studies, Marcos specialized in human genetics, more specifically on DNA damage repair mechanisms focusing on the interplay between cellular functions and epigenetics. He did two internships at the Netherlands Kancer Institute (NKI) under Hein’s te Riele supervision and at the Biotech Research & Innovation Centre under Anja’s Groth supervision.
After his university education Marcos joined the open access publisher MDPI as an Assistant Editor. He helped develop Genes journal, participating in more than 500 peer-review processes and 20 collections. After acting as managing Editor for Genes journal during six months, Marcos was appointed Associate Publisher where he promoted Open Access Publishing at research institutions and societies as well as participating at research conferences and workshops. During his final year at MDPI Marcos became the Open Access Ambassador for MDPI, organizing the events for the Open Access Week and hosting workshops at European Universities.
