Dr. Martine Lappé joined ISG as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2012. Her research interests include: sociology of health and illness; science and technology studies; autism; gender and embodiment; risk; feminist theory; and qualitative methods. Lappé is preparing a manuscript, currently titled “Anticipating Autism: Navigating Science, Uncertainty, and Care in the Post-Genomic Era,” which explores the emergence and practices of autism gene-environment interaction research. Her work considers the changing relationships between science and care in the post-genomic era and their intersections with family life, experiences of risk, and biomedical research.
Dr. Lappé has taught courses including: Gender and Science, and Ethnographic Methods in Science and Technology Studies. While at UCLA, she will offer courses on Qualitative Methods in Science and Medicine, and Sociology of Health and Illness.
