Marc P. Johnston is in his third year as a Ph.D. student in the Higher Education & Organizational Change (HEOC) division where he works under Dr. Jane Pizzolato in complicating existing frameworks for understanding college students and developing new methods for getting at the complexities of diverse students’ development during college. In particular, Marc studies college students’ underlying conceptions of race and their influence on development and has a passion for better understanding complicated issues regarding multiraciality in higher education. Prior to UCLA, Marc worked in multicultural affairs units at the University of Arizona and New York University, and as an Academic Advisor working with TRiO Student Support Services at Michigan State University, where he also completed his B.S. and M.A. degrees. Marc loves being at UCLA with such amazing scholars whose productivity is truly contagious.
