Christopher S. Colwell is a Neuroscientist who has served on the UCLA School of Medicine faculty since he joined the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences in 1997. He is presently head of the Laboratory of Circadian and Sleep Medicine in the Semel Institute. Colwell is the author of over 85 basic science studies on our body’s clock. His group is presently examining whether behavioral interventions including scheduled exercise, food availability, lighting regimes and diet can delay the onset of age and disease related decline in the sleep/wake cycle. The results of these experiments should provide insights into how to minimize the impact of age-related changes in the circadian timing system on human health and safety.
