The commercialization of open access research in the US has sparked discussion among ISG Professor, Christopher Kelty, and ISG Postdoctoral Fellow, Alexandra Lippman. In their recent article “In a race for mentions, it’s open season on researchers,”  Kelty and Lippman discuss the culture of metrics and rank for visibility and status found in notable online open access platforms such as Academia.edu and ResearchGate.net. Furthermore, both examine an alternative model for open access science in Brazil, called SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), which provides a non-market-based approach to expand better scientists’ publications throughout Latin American and the global South.
