LA’s Nerd Night hosts UCLA physician, Dr. Erica Lee, as she presents her lecture “Genes, Gonads, and Genitals: the Miracle of Human Sex Differentiation” at the Witzend pub in Santa Monica.  Tickets are $10.  For more information click here.

Abstract: When you were but a 5 week old embryo, how do genes and hormones determine your biological sex? What are disorders of sex differentation? How is it possible that some people have abdominal testes and completely female appearance, while others have ovaries and virilized genitalia? This talk will show how mammalian femaleness and maleness are not dichotomies, but a spectrum.

Bio: Erica Li was born in Shanghai, China, and started to play piano at the age of 4. She has always been very curious and enjoys learning about many intellectual subjects. She went to undergrad at Stanford, medical school at UC Davis, and is now a resident physician at Harbor UCLA.
