Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award to Professor Patrick Allard, ISG Faculty

The Institute for Society and Genetics (ISG) is proud to announce that Professor Patrick Allard has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award for his project, “Closing the Loopholes: Rethinking Pesticide Policy and Governance.”

In this project Prof. Allard will examine how pesticide regulations are developed, implemented, and challenged across different regulatory landscapes. The work will examine the alignment between biological and community-based evidence and regulatory policies. Thus, by joining researchers at the University of Montpellier and the ExposUM Institute, and by using a comparative approach that includes policy analysis, stakeholder interviews, and community engagement, the project will aim to map regulatory loopholes, trace their origins, and propose concrete changes to strengthen protections of human and ecosystem health. The project will also seed future collaborations through the creation of a CNRS International Research Laboratory at UCLA, advancing interdisciplinary research at the intersection of biology, public health, and environmental policy.

As a Fulbright Scholar, Professor Allard will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with international partners in educational, political, cultural, economic, and scientific fields. His work exemplifies the mission of the Fulbright Program to foster mutual understanding and tackle global challenges through academic exchange. Fulbright alumni have become heads of state, judges, ambassadors, CEOs, and university presidents, as well as leading journalists, artists, scientists, and teachers. They include 62 Nobel Laureates, 95 Pulitzer Prize winners, and thousands of leaders across the private, public and non-profit sectors.

Please join us in congratulating Professor Allard on this remarkable achievement and in celebrating the impact of his scholarship.
